Norwegian Forest Cat

💃 animated 🕺

some animated films that I've enjoyed! some family-friendly, some less so.

The Last Unicorn (1982)

a solitary unicorn refuses to believe that she is the last of her kind, and sets off to discover the truth behind the disappearance of her sisters. absolutely beautiful backgrounds, beautiful character design & animation.

perhaps my favorite film from my childhood—I requested to rent this again & again from Blockbuster, lol.

Cats Don't Dance (1997)

an animated musical. and the cats DO dance! features a main villain based on Shirley Temple, who sings my favorite song in the film.

Millennium Actress (2001)

Japanese language. another film by Satoshi Kon, who also created 'Tokyo Godfathers'. a beautiful film about an aging actress, recalling significant points in her life & the many different roles that she has played. very interesting to see depicted different film eras & various genres in Japanese filmmaking.

Fire and Ice (1983)

an impressively rotoscoped fantasy film, about a young warrior who must save the princess Teegra & their kingdom from the cruel powers of an ice prince & his sorceress mother.

art direction by Frank Frazetta, a prolific fantasy illustrator responsible for works such as 'The Lord of the Rings with absolutely everyone's ass out', as well as the following (& many such other scenes) from this very film:

🤡 fun romps 🤡

various fun watches that I've enjoyed!

(these will likely get broken up into more appropriate subsections as I add more films; I am too lazy & will just shove them in a single category for now, lol)

But I'm a Cheerleader (2000)

a cheerleader (Natasha Lyonne of 'Russian Doll' fame) is shipped off to a conversion camp when her family & peers suspect that she may be... gasp... a lesbian!!! despite the premise, a funny & sweet film with a happy ending.

Dante Basco is also there! and gay!!!

Tank Girl (1995)

a quirky film based on the comics by Jamie Hewlett (of 'Gorillaz'), about an eccentric tank driver who sets out to defeat an evil corporation which controls the world's water supply & has kidnapped Tank Girl's young friend.

features some kickass wardrobe design. also, there are mutant kangaroo-people.

Knives Out (2019)

the renowned detective Benoit Blanc (a southern-accented Daniel Craig) attempts to solve the murder of a wealthy patriarch—whose entire family of entitled assholes are suspects.

a fun who-dunnit with some very cool set design.

Jupiter Ascending (2015)

she was a cleaning-lady-slash-reincarnation-of-the-Queen-of-the-Universe, he was a half-wolf-half-man-intergalactic-supersolider. what... more can I say...

a zany, wonderfully self-indulgent scifi feature from the Wachowski sisters (creators of The Matrix films & V For Vendetta).

Batman (1989)

Batmaaan! the first of the Tim Burton-directed Batman films. such goofy fun!

stars Jack Nicholson as the Joker! 🤡

Batman Returns (1992)

the second of Tim Burton's Batman films, and my favorite of the two! the overall visuals in this are so good—the combination of goofiness & grime is 🤌 perfection

Michelle Pfiefer as Catwoman and Danny Devito as The Penguin! the best Batman villains by far.

Faces Places (2017)

a sweet documentary about two French artists (Agnes Varda of the French New Wave film movement, & the street artist JR), who travel to different villages across France in a photobooth-car to meet & photograph people from various walks of life.
